Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: OFFICE OF MAYOR LUECKE FRIDAY, JANUARY 14, 2005 APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED FOR SOUTH BEND LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACADEMY The City of South Bend's Local Government Academy will begin its next session on Wednesday, January 26, 2005.Applications are due no later than Friday, January 21. Spaces are limited. The South Bend Local Government Academy provides community members with an opportunity to get up close and behind the scenes of local government at work. Each session will be held on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will take participants inside local government. Over the course of 10 weeks, Academy Members will meet with City Departments to view operations, learn about policies and procedures, review budgets, and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing local government today. The City encourages participation and dialogue with community members to help make South Bend a 21st Century City. Mayor Luecke believes that opening the doors for communication will help build awareness of the City's programs and services and is a win-win for the entire community. Local Government Academy class size is limited to 25. Registration is open through January 21 or until the class is full.
