Luecke, Mayor <br /> RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: <br /> Office of the Mayor Monday, July 18, 2005 <br /> New Director of Wastewater Announced <br /> The City of South Bend's Department of Public Works today announced that Mr. Al Greek has been named <br /> as Director of Wastewater for the Division of Environmental Services. Greek replaces Ken Zmudzinski, and <br /> will begin his duties today Monday, July 18, 2005. <br /> Mr. Greek has more than twenty years experience in the water and wastewater fields, both in the public and <br /> private sectors. Before accepting the position with the City of South Bend, Al worked at Purdue University <br /> Utility Operations supervising maintenance and planning of wastewater systems, as well as regulatory work <br /> with the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Environmental Protection Agency <br /> (EPA). He has also managed contract operations of water and wastewater distribution systems on local, <br /> state and regional levels. <br /> Al has a BA degree and operator training certifications in Class IV and Class D Wastewater Treatment, <br /> Class III Wastewater Collections System, Class WT-2 and DSL Water Distribution Systems. In 1995, he <br /> received the USEPA Region V Outstanding Operation & Maintenance Award while working as Assistant <br /> Superintendent with the City of Lafayette, Indiana Wastewater Treatment Department. <br /> Mr. Greek's experience with the implementation of an MP2 (Computerized Maintenance Management <br /> System) in Evansville, Indiana along with other computer programs, will benefit South Bend. The City of <br /> South Bend Division of Environmental Services has recently implemented the MP2 database system, to <br /> improve work order scheduling for efficient operation and maintenance of wastewater programs. <br /> As Director of Wastewater, Al will be responsible for administrative and management activities of the <br /> Wastewater Treatment Plant, Operations and Maintenance Workgroups, Laboratory, Pretreatment Program, <br /> Organic Resources and Land Application Program. He will also be responsible for all permits and applicable <br /> regulatory programs. <br /> In making the announcement, Jack Dillon, Director of Environmental Services stated, "I believe Al will be an <br /> excellent addition to our team.
