Luecke, Mayor RELEASE FROM: FOR RELEASE: DownTown South Bend Monday, October 24, 2005 The Spurious Fugitive: A Postmodern Gallery, Opens In Downtown South Bend Local art collectors and enthusiasts will be delighted to learn that award winning fine artist and graphic designer, Scott L. Hatt has opened a new "white cube" gallery in Downtown South Bend called The Spurious Fugitive:A Postmodern Gallery. Exhibiting and selling only fine art of avante guard, emerging and mid-career artists, this minimalist space is envisioned by Hatt as one of the few places where regional artists can receive public visibility and professional guidance before taking their work and careers to the national level. Hatt, who officially opened his gallery doors during this year's September 14th Art Beat to a record crowd of about 500 visitors, says, "Currently there is no art gallery in the greater South Bend area that exhibits and sell postmodern art at our price point. Prior to our opening, art collectors had to go out of town to either New York or Chicago to get edgy stuff. The response we've had from the art buying public has been wonderful" The gallery, which is located at 114 West Colfax in South Bend, will represent and exhibit a small handful of regional artists along with a rotating schedule of monthly exhibitions featuring national and international postmodern artists. Private collection consultation, corporate collection initiatives, and marketing services for emerging artists will also be offered. On exhibit this November 2nd through November 27th will be Boston based mixed media artist, Lorin Hesse, who Hatt discovered in the emerging artist edition of Art News. Lorin Hesse: Solo represents the first national artist to exhibit in the gallery. Hatt adds, " went to Lorin's website and just fell in love with her work. The joy that she brings to her pieces is so evident. She paints with such high key colors you can't help but feel the fun she's having."
