PARTNERSHIPS IMPROVE THE FUTURE OF SOUTH MICHIGAN STREETPage 2of 2
planned future expansion of Ivy Tech Community College. Those involved in the work of the South Gateway
corridor anticipate that the recent improvement efforts will soon be accompanied by increased development
opportunities in the area. “The infrastructure and aesthetic improvements that the SGA have accomplished
have opened the door for revitalization, and this has sparked significant private investment in the area. This
is just the beginning for S. Michigan St. and the South Gateway corridor,” commented Fred Thon, Assistant
to the Mayor.
The Commercial Corridor program was developed in 1998, through the City of South Bend’s Department of
Community & Economic Development. The goal of the initiative is to improve the appearance, safety, and
development opportunities in each of South Bend's five key entryways into the city: Western Avenue,
Portage Avenue, South Gateway (S. Michigan and S. Main Streets), Lincoln Way West and Miami Street.
Funds are awarded to each corridor every year, based on its needs and priorities.
View Fact Sheet
Contact: Mikki Dobski, Director of Communications & Special Projects, 235-5855/876-1564
Chris Dressel, Division of Community Development, 235-5847
Go
Back | City Home Page | City Directory | Site Map | Search
powered by FreeFind
Created by the City of South Bend Department of Information Technologies.
Copyright © 2005 City of South Bend.
