South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting —March 22, 2011
on June 17, July 22 and August 19, 2011.
7. PROGRESS REPORTS
A. Tax Abatement PROGRESS REPORTS
Mr. Inks noted that at the last Common Council
meeting the Council took action to approve the
personal property tax exemption allowed under
state law for enterprise information equipment for
data centers. The Council's action says they will
approve each abatement individually, but in
concept the Council agrees to follow state law and
provide those exemptions.
B. Common Council
C. Other
Mr. Inks noted that the fountain in front of the
Morris Civic needs repair. The Morris previously
requested the Commission consider funding repairs
to the fountain. An estimate was secured in the
amount $9,200 to have the fountain motors rebuilt.
No proposal is available for review today;
however, the Morris would like repairs to begin
before the next meeting so the fountain can be
operational on time this spring. Mr. Inks asked that
the Commission authorize proceeding with the
repairs and ratify the proposal at its next meeting.
Mr. Downes noted that there is still outstanding the
question of whether the fountain makes sense long
term and whether these repairs might be wasted.
Mr. Inks responded that Mr. Andres had suggested
another study he would like done for the broader
Jon Hunt Plaza, including the fountain. We haven't
been ready to proceed with that, but we would like
to go ahead with fountain repairs.
Upon a motion by Mr. Varner, seconded by Mr. COMMISSION APPROVED OF A NOT -TO- EXCEED
Downes and unanimously carried, the Commission AMOUNT OF $10,000 FOR REPAIR OF THE
FOUNTAIN IN FRONT OF THE MORRIS CIVIC
16
