(E) Bricks used on visible commercial/mixed-use facades must not be larger <br /> than a standard brick (4"x2"x8"). "Queen," "jumbo," or other commercial- <br /> grade/scale bricks, while appropriate for some newer commercial <br /> buildings, should be used sparingly. <br /> (F) Decorative block, "renaissance stone", smooth/textured synthetic plaster, <br /> and wood trim should be used only for decorative accent purposes and <br /> limited in their use on building facades and visible walls. <br /> (G) Roofs, if sloped, must be clad in cedar shake wood, fiberglass, asphalt <br /> shingles, tile, or real/synthetic slate. <br /> (H) Mill finish (i.e., non-colored) aluminum or metal window and door frames <br /> are discouraged. <br /> (1) Windows and doors must be made of painted aluminum, or wood, or clad <br /> wood. Clear or shaded glass is acceptable; dark or reflective glass is <br /> prohibited. <br /> (J) Window detailing such as muttons or mullions are encouraged where <br /> integrated into the building design. <br /> (K) Wood and decorative metal are the preferred materials for fencing around <br /> parking and screening areas. Fences should be considered an extension of <br /> the building architecture and should make the transition between the mass <br /> of the architecture and the natural forms of the site. <br /> (8} Commercial/Mixed Use Building Color <br /> (A) Natural colors and colors complementary or found in the NNDA's existing <br /> color palette must be used for the main portion of building facades and <br /> roof forms. Neutral earth tones (beige to brown), shades of gray, <br /> traditional colors {brick red, dark green, navy blue), or light, subdued hues <br /> are acceptable. <br /> (B) Contrasting colors which are compatible with the colors listed above, are <br /> acceptable for secondary or accent colors. <br /> (C) Primary colors, bright, or excessively brilliant colors are prohibited unless <br /> used sparingly for subtle trim accents or as part of a historic building <br /> renovation project. <br /> (D) Roof colors should complement the building's primary color. Roof colors <br /> should be a natural finish, and should provide a "shadow effect." <br /> 30 <br />
