South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting—February 22, 2010
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
L. Other
(1) Quotes for Emergency Sidewalk Snow
Removal.
Ms. Jennings noted that the Commission
currently owns approximately 100 properties.
In the past the Redevelopment Commission
has not hired anyone to remove snow from
its properties. But, following the heavy
snowfall on January 8, the Common Council
passed an ordinance that required snow
removal on sidewalks within 24 hours. In an
effort to comply with the city's ordinance,
staff requested quotes for snow removal from
several contractors. Two vendors responded
to the request and because there was so much
snow we contracted with both of those
vendors: Triumph Construction and First
Impressions Landscaping, both of South
Bend, Indiana to immediately remove snow
from the Redevelopment owned properties.
The contract is for a maximum $10,000 per
contractor for a total of$20,000 with the
option to increase this amount if there is a
additional need for the 2011 snow season.
Staff will use the normal bidding process
before winter next year. Staff is asking for
ratification of the two contractors.
Upon a motion by Ms. King, seconded by COMMISSION RATIFIED THE SNOW REMOVAL
Mr. Downes and unanimously carried, the CON'TRACTS OF$IO,OOO EACH FOR EMERGENCY
Commission ratified the snow removal SIDEWALK SNOW REMOVAL
contracts of$10,000 each for emergency
sidewalk snow removal.
7.
