Y;;J~ ~'j;~?9' <br />.`~ .~ s. ~:~. <br />~~ ~'a ~~" COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br />JULY 26, 2010 <br />Chairperson Timothy Rouse called the Community and Economic Development <br />Committee meeting to order at 4:20 p.m. <br />Committee Members Present: Timothy Rouse, Ann Puzzello, Karen White, Henry Davis <br />Other Councilmember's Present: Derek Dieter, Tom LaFountain, David Varner, Al <br />Kirsits, Oliver Davis <br />Other's Present: Kathy Hahn, Don Inks, David Relos, Jeff Vitton, Michael Calhoun, <br />Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Rita Kopala <br />Agenda: Bill No. 10-28- Tax Abatement -Real Property -McCormick & Co. <br />3425 Lathrop <br />Bill No. 10-29 -Tax Abatement -Personal Property -McCormick & Co. <br />3425 Lathrop <br />Bill No. 10-38 -Airport Economic Development Area (AEDA) <br />Chairperson Rouse noting a quorum present declared Bill Nos. 10-28 and 10-29 asking <br />abatement for real and personal property respectively would be considered jointly. For a <br />presentation Chairperson Rouse allowed Kathy Hahn filling in for Bob Mathia of the <br />city's economic development department to proceed. Ms. Hahn said that McCormick <br />was proposing an expansion of their present facility by 50,000 square feet at a total cost <br />of over $5.8 million dollars for both building and equipment. The real property <br />abatement would run 6-9 years depending on a point scale that could vary depending <br />upon f nalization of criteria in the application. The personal property request is limited to <br />five years by statute. She went on to indicate 123 existing jobs would be retained, five <br />new jobs would be created, and a $6.3 million dollar annual payroll would be preserved. <br />Chairman Rouse then called upon Michael Calhoun, plant manager of the local <br />McCormick facility, to add comment. Mr. Calhoun said a final decision to expand <br />production here or in another 72 unit senior housing in LaSalle Square Jeff Vitton of <br />Economic Development fielded some technical questions concerning the LaSalle <br />development saying Council approval would allow construction start-up in late spring of <br />2011. Councilmember White moved Bill No. 10-38 move favorably to full Council. <br />Councilmember Puzzello seconded and all concurred. <br />
