~U~7 Saute Bend Corn~non vun~~ <br />The August ~ 3, ~~47 meeting of the Corr~n~unity Relations Con~rnittee of the South <br />Bend Common Council eras called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member Randy <br />i~elly at :4~ p~n~~ in the Council's lnforrnl Meeting Roor~. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members ~Celly, Rouse, i~irit, Varner, Dieter, <br />~Cuspa and Puello; Code Enforcement Director Catherine Toppel, ~.larie I~oo of the <br />ou~f~ Berg Tribune end l~athleen Ckanski-Frrand, Council Attorney, <br />Council Mer~ber l~Ceily noted that the committee n~en~bers include Coum~cil Members <br />'UlJhite, Varner, Pu~zello and himself. <br />u~s~it~ BiEI ll~o. 44~~~: ecia~ events fro oe~ ~e u~ation; <br />Council Member Kelly noted that today's Can~n~ittee reeting gill have the sponsors of <br />the Bill highlight their proposal since another meeting has been scheduled far August <br />ot~ <br />Council Member Pfeifer asked the presenters ~uhether they believe there has been <br />sufficient time far input, <br />Council Mer~ber Kirits stated that "the public has been screamning for this ordinance for <br />years". He noted that the substitute bill i good ordinance ~rhich i proactive. <br />Council President Rouse stated that a public hearing eras held on August end and that <br />they are responding to the concerns raised. He added that h has had the ~ffi~e of the <br />City Clerk make available copies of the US Department of Justice CDPS repo~k v`rhich <br />the Council Attorney located and utilised in the preparation of the substitute bill. <br />Council Member Dieter inquired hoer the la~un parking ordinances passed earlier this <br />year uvere being enforced, noting that the police department v~ould like to begin issuing <br />tickets. <br />Cade Enforcer~ent Director Catherine Toppel stated that her office is issuing ~varnin. <br />She added that she intends to meet vuith Police Chief Thomas Faut~ to coordinate <br />efforts on enforcerr~ent. <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee, Council 111lernber Kelly <br />adjourned the meeting at 4:8 p.m. <br />
