INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM
Information Technologies Department
227 W Jefferson Blvd (574) 245-6000
TO: Board of Public Works, Linda Martin
CC: Dan O'Connor
FROM: Michael E. Sniadecki, Director of Infrastructure
SUBJECT: City of South Bend -Metronet Buildout Phase 1
Connecting our facilities for reliability and performance
DATE: 11 /02/17
Linda, Jennifer, Michael & George,
Please see the attached quotes and spreadsheet regarding the addition of eight COSB
locations to the Metronet during phase one of this project. The overall initiative is to
connect all city facilities to the Metronet within two years.
Currently, Metronet serves as the backbone to share IT services/network connectivity
throughout many of the city facilities. Metronet provides significant savings as well as
better, faster, more reliable/redundant connectivity. The Office of Innovation and
Technology team reviewed the quote and give favorable recommendation.
Below are locations within phase one that have no network connection, very slow circuit,
and/or lack of redundancy:
1) Building Department
2) Central Fire
3) Fire Station #5
4) Fire Station #2
5) Park Maintenance
6) Street Department
7) Colfax Garage
8) Wayne St Garage
Phase one of the Metronet Buildout would be a onetime cost of $73,249. Metronet is a
"sole source" vendor. They are the only ones that can do this work.
Thank you,
Michael E. Sniadecki
