REGULAR MEETING September 25, 2017
life. But, we already live in a pocket neighborhood. It's a nice place and we want to hold on to
the good things that are there. I think this development reflects the best of that. And, quite
frankly, I think maybe, in retrospect, the developers ought to thank the community and thank the
Council, because you're going to end up with a better project than you first came to us with. I
think this is a good project. It's going to be good for the neighborhood. A lot of the fears that
people had, understandably, have been allayed. And I think the developers—because it is in their
best interest to make this project as attractive as possible—they're attuned to what makes this a
good project, too. Thanks to everyone, but especially the neighbors who came forth and
coalesced.
Councilmember Karen White stated, I would like to personally thank everyone that has taken
part in this process. Indeed, it has been a long process, but it has been a very important process.
To the neighbors: I'm amazed in regards to your ability to come,to share your thoughts, to give
your input, but to stay the course. And you've stayed the course. And it shows that—neighbors-
you do and can make a difference. To the developers: I appreciate your willingness to listen, but
not only to listen, but to come back and make those adjustments so that the project that we have
before us is the very best—that it's the result of a number of individuals coming together to
work, to debate, to maybe not have all that you would have liked to have seen, but we do have a
very excellent process and a very excellent project. Councilmember White stated that what every
developer will hear from the Council whenever they present to them a project is, "Have you
talked to the neighbors?" Councilmember White emphasized that any of these projects need to
benefit the residents more than the developers. She stated, Again, I am very thankful, and I look
forward to taking action on this project.
Councilmember Oliver Davis stated favorably that this process is comparable to the preparation
of a meal via crock pot—"A slow process, but a good meal"—insisting that every step has led to
a stronger project.
Councilmember Tim Scott made a motion to amend Bill No. 43-17 to include the written
commitments presented to the Council by the petitioner. Councilmember John Voorde seconded
the motion which carried by a voice vote of eight(8) ayes.
Councilmember Tim Scott made a motion to send Substitute Bill No. 43-17 to the full Council
with a favorable recommendation.
