Mr. Patrick C. Kerr, Ph.D., P.E.
City of South Bead
Howard Park Renovation — South Bend, Indiana
August 16, 2017
Page 2
the borings be advanced using hollow -stem augers with Standard Penetration
test performed at 2'/-ft intervals in the upper 15 ft and at 5-ft intervals thereafter;
Task 2. Determination of soil index properties including visual soils classification (ASTM
D 2488), natural moisture content (ASTM D 2216) (if necessary), Atterberg limits
(ASTM D 4318), unconfined compression tests (ASTM D 2166), and grain size
distribution (ASTM D 422);
Task 3. Preparing a technical report which will present our findings and
recommendations for geotechnical considerations regarding:
a) Preparation and improvement, where necessary, of in -situ soils for support
of shallow (mat or spread) foundations in addition to floor slabs and other at -
grade elements;
b) Suitable foundation types, including pertinent recommendations per
foundation type including such items as: allowable soil bearing pressures,
modulus of subgrade reaction, foundation bearing; estimate of total and
differential settlements; and potential construction problems;
c) Other site specific issues that may affect design or construction, such as
temporary earth slopes, seismicity and dewatering.
COST
We propose to provide our services on a time and materials basis in accordance with the
unit rates provided in the attached Geotechnical Evaluation Cost Estimate. We have
estimated the cost for completing these services to be approximately $10,000. Please
recognize that the total costs are approximate because they are based on estimated
quantities. Our proposal assumes there is not site contamination which will require
methods or procedures beyond that necessary for "normal' sites. If any significant
variation develops during the course of the evaluation, we will advise you so that our
efforts can be effectively directed.
This estimate assumes that the borings will be backfilled with auger cuttings. The
estimated fee for the field portion of the work is also dependent on the borings being
accessible to truck -mounted equipment. Prior to performing the field activities, EEI will
contact Indiana 811 to locate and identify underground utilities in the vicinity of the site.
Any utilities considered to be private are the responsibility of the owner to locate. EEI will
locate the test borings from plans to be provided.
ARTY &LO1MIONiv
