REGULAR MEETING July 24, 2017 Therese Doreau, Director of the Sustainability Office in the Department of Public Works, with offices on the 13th Floor of the County-City Building, South Bend, IN, stated that this is a community-led initiative with no financial investment or risk adopted by the City. Ms. Doreau stated, I'm very grateful for the work of the steering committee. It's a great example of the responsibility for sustainability being spread throughout the community. This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill,proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Those from the public wishing to speak in favor of this bill: Victor Meyers, 336 West Navarre Street, South Bend, IN, stated that he is a volunteer in this effort. Mr. Meyers stated that he is very appreciate of the support of the City. He stated, I think it can go a long way toward endorsing a commitment by residents to transition from fossil fuels— at least, diminish the use and dependence on them toward friendlier environmental solutions for the future. There were none from the public wishing to speak in opposition to the bill. Councilmember Gavin Ferlic made a motion to adopt Bill No. 17-40. Councilmember Oliver Davis seconded the motion which carried by a roll call vote of nine (9) ayes. 17-41 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMITTING TO JOIN OTHER U.S. CITIES AND STATES IN EMBRACING PRINCIPLES LAID OUT IN PARIS CLIMATE AGREEMENT Councilmember Oliver Davis made a motion to continue indefinitely Bill No. 17-41. Councilmember John Voorde seconded the motion which carried by a roll call vote of nine (9) ayes.
