"aw~~~ ~~~~}' <br />.rC~*~ )` <br />~~~` ~~~~s COMMUNITY RELATIONS NOVEMBER 23, 2009 <br />Henry Davis, Chairperson, Community Relations Committee called the meeting to order <br />at 5:30 p.m. <br />Committee Members Present: David Varner, Ann Puzzello <br />Other Councilmember's Present: Al "Buddy" Kirsits, Tim Rouse, Oliver Davis <br />Other's Present: Mikki Dobski, Gary Gilot, Mayor Luecke, Gary Brown, Marvin Curtis, <br />Felecia Gonderzick, Dave Blodgett <br />Agenda: Update -Young Professionals Network <br />New Art Program -Charles Black &MLK Center <br />Community Relations Committee Chairperson Henry Davis said he felt it was a good <br />idea to update the Council regarding the ongoing status of two Council outreach <br />initiatives in the community. Henry said the initiatives hopefully would get people <br />involved, especially youth in productive community efforts. Gary Brown from Memorial <br />Hospital outlined the Memorial sponsored leadership development program designed to <br />identify and involve young professionals for civic and charitable service on Boards. The <br />program itself consisted of leadership training one night a week for 12 weeks from 5:30 <br />to 8:00. He said this effort had been joined by the collaborative support of Notre Dame, <br />IUSB, Bethel College, the Chamber and Memorial. It is geared to involving and <br />developing 18-40 year olds. The art programs at Charles Black and MLK Centers is <br />sponsored by IUSB in the form of funding as well as program development.- Twenty <br />neighborhood youngsters are presently painting a mural at the MLK Center. Thirty <br />youngsters were presently participating in a song and dance program as well. Several <br />children were present to describe their efforts. Various Councilmember's present praised <br />Councilmember Davis' initiatives. Councilmember Rouse suggested the next CDBG <br />budget support these types of projects. <br />
