2016 Annual Report— Department of Code Enforcement 23
Code Enforcement's Employee Education & Training
Asbestos Training
In May of 2016 our inspectors were recertified on asbestos safety, testing techniques and usage of protective
equipment. The training and certification provided were approved by the Indiana Department of Environmental
Management (IDEM). The training for the initial certification is two days. Each subsequent certification requires a one-
day refresher course for annual recertification. At this time, all of our inspectors are certified by the state.
First Aid and AED Training
Two office staff members and two inspectors attended, and were certified in,first aid and AED. Many in the department
were trained in 2015. 15 people are now certified in CPR (across the Department including SBACC). We hope to
continue to have more people trained every year.
De-escalation Training
The entire department (Code Enforcement and Animal Control) attended de-escalation training hosted by Fred Pryor
Seminars. We hope to continue learning additional de-escalation techniques.
Behavioral Insights Training
One of our office staff members attended the Behavioral Insights Training seminar hosted by the Innovation &
Technology Department. The skills learned in the training will allow us to perform random sampling experiments with
our letters and invoices in pursuit of increasing our owner response rates as well as maximizing our return on
investment for mailed items.
1300 County-City Building, 227 W.
