Richard Powers, Community Policing Co-Chairperson, 235-9402 <br />Karen Ainsley, NNN Director/ Weed & Seed COP Committee: 232-9182 <br />Weed & Seed Unveils New Billboard Designs <br />The City of South Bend Weed & Seed Alliance (SBWSA), and the Community <br />Policing (COP) Committee are pleased to present the results of their first art billboard design <br />contest for the city's new Weed & Seed site. The theme for this year's contest was "Graffiti <br />Against Graffiti." Students, in grades 8-12 from Clay High School, Riley High School, and <br />LaSalle Intermediate Academy, were asked to create and design a billboard with this year's <br />theme. <br />On Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9:00 A.M., at the NE corner of Sancome St and <br />Lincoln Way West (1419 L.W.W.), a short press conference will take place, celebrating the <br />successful Student Art Billboard Contest. The billboard will highlight the Grand Prize Winning <br />Design, submitted by Ms. Sarah Rudasics, representing Clay High School. <br />Invited guests include: <br />• Ms. Sarah Rudasics, her parents, and representatives of Clay High School <br />• Mayor Stephen Luecke <br />~ South Bend Chief of Police Darryl Boykins <br />• 1 St District Councilman, Derek Dieter <br />• 2nd District Councilman, Henry Davis, Jr. <br />• Michael Dvorak St. Joseph County Prosecutor <br />• Interim United States Attorney David Capp -Northern District of Indiana <br />~ Superintendent James Kapsa, South Bend Community School Corporation <br />• Members of the South Bend Weed & Seed Alliance Inc. <br />Over seventy students barticipated in the pro ect this year. The youth were allowed to <br />create their own designs and submit their original artwork to their art teachers for judging by <br />the COP committee. Attached are the locations of the five winning designs that are displayed <br />on billboards in prominent locations throughout the Weed & Seed area <br />Funding for the billboard project was provided through the federal grant funds received <br />from the United States Department of Justice. <br />-30- <br />
