REGULAR MEETING RESOLUTIONS 16 -66 SEPTEMBER 26, 2016 A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE ADOPTION OF A DECLARATORY RESOLUTION DESIGNATING CERTAIN AREAS WITHIN THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, COMMONLY KNOWN AS 7250 VORDEN PKWY, SOUTH BEND, IN 46628 AS AN ECONOMIC REVITALIZATION AREA FOR PURPOSES OF A FIVE (5) YEAR PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX ABATEMENT FOR 3B TECH, INC. Sarah Heintzelman, Department of Community Investment with offices on the 14th Floor of the County -City Building, served as the presenter for this bill. This is a five (5) year personal property tax abatement for 3B Tech. They are making a private investment of $640,000. New taxes generated will be $54,904 of which $25,200 would be abated. One - hundred (100) new jobs would be created from this project with an annual payroll of over $3.5 million. Mike Johnson, 3B Tech with offices at 7250 Vorden Parkway, served as the petitioner for this bill. The company is expanding and outgrowning their existing building. We will still maintain both facilities and will use the help from the tax abatement to help speed the growth of that proj ect. There were no questions from Council. No one from the public spoke in favor of the bill. Those wishing to speak in opposition: Jesse Davis, P.O. Box 10205 South Bend IN, spoke against the bill. This huge fiscal cliff is coming up and we shouldn't grant these tax abatements. We need to ask all companies coming for tax abatements if they will still expand their company without this tax abatement. That is a question that needs to be asked of every company before granting more tax abatements. If the City wants to keep spending the resident's tax dollars, you have to quit walking away from tax dollars from businesses. Councilmember Gavin Ferlic made a motion to adopt Bill 16 -66. Councilmember Randy Kelly seconded the motion which carried by a roll call vote of eight (8) ayes and one (1) nay. (Councilmember Regina Williams- Preston) Councilmember Gavin Ferlic made a motion to hear Bills 16 -69 and 16 -71 together for purposes of public hearing.
