Councilman Henry Davis, Jr., of
the 2nd District has worked to make sure this accommodation happens each year with the best
barbers and volunteers from the local area. "It is a pleasure to not only give back but a desired
responsibility to make sure every child can have a fresh start at the beginning of the school year,"
say Councilman Davis.
Over the decade this tradition has moved around the city and has grown in numbers and gifts to
the students who are going back to school. Each year the event can have 300 -400 attendees who
can show up with a parent or guardian and receive well wishes, a free haircut, lunch and a
backpack with supplies, while supplies last. This will be the first year the event is being held at
Inspiration Beauty School which is a new vocational trade school founded by Mr. Kintae Lark,
It is set to open on August 18th. The new vocational school is located at 307 Chapin Street.
"I am extremely excited that we are partnering with Mr. Kintae Lark, the visionary head
instructor, of this vocational school, to use the facility for this event. It will give the community
an opportunity to see something that is available to the residents of this community. It is a win -
win for South Bend," stated Davis.
A decade ago there was only a backpack giveaway given by the local school corporation and
since the inception of 'Hair Kutz 4 Kids' there are more than 5 back to school events servicing
the local community. "I think it is fantastic that the South Bend community has taken on the
responsibility to support our children as they head back to school and next year we will work to
'pack a bus' because we have to do more for our children," says Councilman Henry Davis, Jr.
'Hair Kutz 4 Kids' took place on Sunday, August 16th with a start time of l Oam and ended at
6pm. It was a great celebration with food, fun and a DJ setting the mood for the upcoming school
year which starts on Tuesday, August 18.
227 W.
