Indiana's current state legislature is working to repeal a Common Construction
Wage Law that helps to set a standard for wages and quality of life for Indiana workers.
The South Bend Common Council will meet on February 23, 2015 to vote on a resolution that is
asking the legislature to rethink their efforts in repealing the Common Construction Law. "We
have to make sure our Governor and the state legislature super majority understands that we need
standards when it comes to employment, wages, and benefits for Indiana workers," says
Councilman Henry Davis, Jr.
South Bend will be adversely impacted with the passage of this repeal. This 2nd class city of
100k boasts an enormous poverty rate of 30%, 74% of our school aged children receive Federal
government assistance for free or reduced lunch and unemployment is still in double figures with
the addition of chronically unemployed residents. South Bend like other communities need
higher paying jobs, better skilled workers, and more job opportunities not the lesser.
"It appears that our State Legislature and Governor is working for the best interest of the top 2%
of our population and not the workers and families of this state or the City of South Bend. We
need increase not a decrease in standards for our communities in Indiana," explained Davis, Jr.
227 W.Jefferson Blvd.Ron.441
County-City Building South Bend,IN Office: (574)235-9321
Voicemail: (574)235-5983 Email hdavis @souihbendin.gov
