DUB /Diversity Utilization Board
May 19, 2014 5:30 P.M.
The May 19t1 meeting of the Diversity Utilization Board (DUB) opened short of a quorum. Board
members Carrie Kosac, Kareemah Fowler, Tom Capers and Sheri Miller -Story were present. Other
attendees were Jan Hall, George King, John Sanders, and Don Chambers.
Vice - President led discussion noting the lack of a quorum precluded taking any official action.
That notwithstanding, Carrie suggested following President Summer's request to review and discuss the
Trinal report.
Kareemah Fowler interjected that the previous Board had previously reviewed the ordinance, the Trinal
report, and the Cekanski suggestions. From those discussions the board had agreed upon, though not
formally adopted, five recommended revisions to the ordinance. To save time and avoid redundancy,
Kareemah suggested these five recommendations as a good starting point for discussions.
Jan Hall agreed; but expressed concerns about new board members being unfamiliar with previously
done work.
Carrie said all members of the board should have all past materials, i.e.) Trinal report, Ordinance,
Cekanski notes, and the five recommendations, to study and offer commentary by now. Carrie said she
would email the entire board urging them to do their "homework" so that by the next meeting a starting
point and review sequence could be agreed upon.
The next DUB meeting is scheduled for Monday June 16th at 5:30 P.M.
Tom Capers and Carrie Kosac both agreed initial review and discussion meetings should be held more
frequently than the current third Monday of each month schedule. This motion would be suggested at
the June 16th meeting.
Carrie Kosac, Jan Hall and Sheri Miller -Story all agreed that a training session for the board, both old and
new members might be beneficial. This could serve to get everyone "on the same page ". More
specifically it would include a review of the DUB intended mission, an accounting of expenditures by the
DUB to date and an estimate of financial resources at hand today.
City Clerk John Voorde agreed to procure the financials.
Carrie also requested a list of certified WBE /MBE businesses as well as those non - certified. A list of
LBE's that is, WBE or MBE's located in St. Joseph County, would also be useful.
Jan Hall and George King agreed to assemble a list.
