<br />Be it Remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana,'met,.,in the
<br />Regular Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Monday evening January 22nd, 1934,
<br />at the hour of-7 :50 o'clock P. M. All Members present except 'Coiuncilman Nelson and Rokop.
<br />Vice — President Icaaaa Grzeskowiak presided. The Minutes oft the previous meeting were read and
<br />on Motion of Councilman Hull were accepted as read.' Motion carried.

<br />Gentlemen: The.resignation of Mr. C.' A. Budd as president and member of the South Bend
<br />Board of Public Safety was received Monday, January, 15th, and I have accepted same effective
<br />imediately. -
<br />In previous communications I have requested your body to adopt annordinance placing Section ffi
<br />of Chapter 233 of the Acts of 1933 in effect immediately, such power being conferred upon the
<br />Common Councils by Section 82 of the same Act.'
<br />Mr. BuddIs resignation brings the matter up again and I am sure that instead of appointing
<br />a new member the boards should be abolished, alatomatically placing Mr. Iden S. Romig, City
<br />Attorney, Mr.:E.' J. McErlain, City Controller, and Mr. W. S. Moore, City Civil-Engineer, in
<br />charge of the Department of Public Safety. Very truly, W. R Hinkle, Mayor

<br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF-THE WHOLE.
<br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
<br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred Communications from several different
<br />people in regards to the Salary reduction of Firemen of the City of South Bend, Indiana, -
<br />Respectfully report that they have examined the matter, and that in their opinion the said
<br />Communications should be accepted and placed on file. J. C. Hiss, Chairman. The report was
<br />accepted and placed on:file.
<br />REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE.
<br />To the Common Council of the City of South Bend:
<br />Your Committee of the Whole to whom was referred A Resolution signed by the International
<br />Association of Fire Ffughters, local 362 of South Bend, concerning reduction in salary, etc.
<br />Respectfully report that they hamve examined the matter, and that in their opinion the said
<br />Resolution should be reported by Ways and Means Committee that the 10% be returned to the
<br />Fire Dept. b=eginning January lst, 1934 as the Budget of 1934 was passed. J. C. Hiss,Chairman.
<br />ORDINANCE NOS.'=:
<br />An Ordinance appropriating the sum of Twenty Thousand Four Hundred Eighty-Dollars
<br />($20,x-80.00) from tje General `Fund of the City of South Bend, to the Department of Public
<br />Safety for its Fire Department for additional Salaries and Wages,for Increase in the Salaries
<br />and Wages of the Members of said Fire Department.'
<br />The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on
<br />Motion of Councilman Altfeld was referred. to the Committee ofthe Whole, also that a -Public.

<br />An Ordinance Providing -for the Borrowing of the sum of Four Thousand Dollars ($4,000.00)
<br />from the City Water Works of the City of South Bend, Indiana, By the Municipal City of South
<br />Bend g for its General Fund and an appropriation of said sum of Four Thousand 2-Dollars ($4000.)
<br />to the Finance Depart of said -City for the City Hall and Fire Stations of said City by dizis
<br />Civic Works Association"
<br />The Ordinance was given its first reading by title, its second reading in full and on
<br />Motion of Councilman Altfeld was referred to the Committee of the Whole, also that a-Public.
<br />Hearing be held February 5th, 193+ at 7:30 o'clock P. M. Motion carried.
<br />RESOLUTION.
<br />January 17th, 1934.
<br />RESOLVED, that the Wdmens Division of the 'South Bend Civic Planning Association insist that the
<br />Mayor, Board of Safety and Common Council take proper measures to clean up all places- where
<br />immorality and illegal drinking is taking place and put an immediate stop to the sale of liquor
<br />to minors and in public dance halls where found existent. Womens Division South Bend Civixo
<br />Planning Assn4 Mrs. R. L. Mosier Gen. Chairman.' Mrs. M. Ziarnick 1st Vice Chairman. Miss
<br />Marciureite Gump, Secretary. On Motion of Councilman Goetz, the Resolution was referred to
<br />the Committee on Ordinances to report back to the Committee of the Whole.'
