<br />A RESOLUTION COMMENDING
<br />MARCIA I. JONES FOR EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO THE
<br />SOUTH BEND REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Marcia I. Jones has been a member of the Redevelopment Commission
<br />for the City of South Bend since 1999, and prior to that, also served in a volunteer capacity
<br />as a member of other City boards, including the Advisory Commission on Industrial
<br />Development for the City of South Bend; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, during her time volunteering on the Redevelopment Commission,
<br />Marcia took a leadership role, serving as Vice President for more than 4 years before
<br />serving as the President of the Commission for 20 years; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, during her 25 years on the Commission, Marcia has attended more
<br />than 500 Commission meetings and devoted thousands of volunteer hours to the City of
<br />South Bend; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Marcia has worked with her fellow Commissioners, residents, the
<br />Mayor’s Office and the Department of Community Investment on at least hundreds of
<br />developments that have helped build the City of South Bend and its infrastructure into
<br />what it is today, thereby improving the quality of life of the residents of South Bend; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, during Marcia’s time as a Commissioner, Marcia oversaw
<br />redevelopment efforts furthering renovations to key City assets including the Morris
<br />Performing Arts Center, Century Center, Palais Royale, Howard Park, Four Winds Field,
<br />and other City facilities; environmental rehabilitation efforts in numerous locations;
<br />connectivity improvements including Smart Streets, South Shore Double Tracking, and the
<br />Coal Line Trail; support for many area nonprofits; and numerous completed and in-
<br />progress projects, including improvements to Leighton Plaza, Ignition Park, The Ivy at
<br />Berlin Place, Eddy Street Commons, Studebaker Building 84, The LaSalle Apartments,
<br />JMS Building, the Armory, Stephenson Mills, Courtyard by Marriott, the Cascades,
<br />Indiana Dinosaur Museum, MarMain Apartments, Liberty Tower/Aloft Hotel, the Nexus
<br />Center, Diamond View Apartments, The Monreaux, 466 Works, Intend Indiana, the
<br />Madison Lifestyle District, and many, many more; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Marcia always has been a patient, steady and reliable source of
<br />objective information to guide the Commissions in making sound decisions; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Marcia has never forgotten the public that she serves, and has been
<br />committed to the public process of decision making, recognizing its importance as necessary
<br />and beneficial to the decision being made; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, Marcia has served the public, giving unselfishly of her time for the
<br />betterment of the community with no concern for individual recognition; and
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, after decades of loyal service, Marcia has elected to bring to a close her
<br />term of membership on the Commission.

<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the South Bend Redevelopment
<br />Commission hereby recognizes Marcia I. Jones for her extraordinary commitment and
<br />distinguished service to the City of South Bend through her role as a Commissioner and
