They had reached out to Indiana Department
of Environmental Management (IDEM) in search of “antique” landfills to develop this technology
in Midwest conditions. IDEM contacted the City to see if there was interest in taking part in a
pilot project at no cost to the City at the closed landfill located at Fredrickson Park.
This technology reduces methane emissions that are a greenhouse gas. This project opens
piggy-back opportunities for the Office of Sustainability and possibly the Boy Scouts.
An Agreement with Parsons was developed due to the regulations that must be adhered to with
the closed landfill.
