Iz <br /> Commftttt sport: <br /> Residential Neighborhoods Committee <br /> "go the QCOmmolt COMIC fl Of tht E tti of bo tt j tnb: <br /> The March 8, 1999 meeting of the Residential Neighborhoods Committees was called to <br /> order by its Chairperson, Council Member Karl King at 4:15 p.m. in the Council informal <br /> meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Varner, King, Aranowski, Kelly, <br /> Varner, Ujdak, Hosinski, Sniadecki and Coleman, Khadijah Muhammad, Terry Bland, <br /> Carl Littrell, Doug Carpender, Lewis Powell, Pam Meyer, Jon Hunt and Kathleen <br /> Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member King noted that the first item on the Committee's agenda was to review <br /> the vacancies on the Animal Control Commission. Copies of § 5-4 of the South Bend <br /> Municipal Code were distributed to the Council which address the membership of the <br /> Animal Control Commission. (copy attached). The Commission is composed of three(3) <br /> members and one(1)alternate member. The Council is required to appoint one(1) licenses <br /> veterinarian and one (1) person who is an "owner, operator, or employee of a kennel, <br /> cattery,zoological park or commercial animal establishment". <br /> Council Member King encouraged Council Members to pass the word that these <br /> appointments would be forthcoming. The persons serving currently on the Commission <br /> are Dr. Carol Ecker, DVM and Dr. Donn E.Kryder,DVM. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer suggested that the City be proactive and send a letter to those <br /> qualifying for appointment advising them of the vacancies. <br /> Council Member Ujdak asked whether such appointments must be residents of the City of <br /> South Bend. The Council Attorney noted that city residency was not required. Council <br /> President Coleman suggested that this area might be revisited by the City in the future. <br /> Council Member King then noted that he has had ongoing discussions with the <br /> Neighborhood Strategic Planning Task Force. He has suggested that NSPT work more <br /> closely with the Council. He will keep the Council posted on this topic. <br /> Council Member King stated that he has also been in contact with the Committee for <br /> Reliable Electrical Power. He noted that Lew Powell and Carl Littrell have also been <br /> attending their meetings.
