QCommttte* Z port: <br /> The Zoning and Annexation Committee <br /> go the Common totrittti of the City of Soup 8nt': <br /> The January 26, 1998 meeting of the Zoning and Annexation Committee was called to by <br /> its Chairperson, Council Member John Hosinski order at 3:50 p.m.in the Council informal <br /> meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Hosinski,Aranowski,Broden, Pfeifer, <br /> Varner,Ujdak,Kelly, Sniadecki and Coleman;Terry Bland,John Oxian,James Cierzniak, <br /> Peg Luecke,Jon Hunt,and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Hosinski noted that the purpose of the meeting is to review Bill No. 23- <br /> 97 which is a request to establish an historic landmark for the property located at 804 North <br /> Lafayette Boulevard. <br /> Mr.John Oxian President es dent of the Historic Preservation Commission made the presentation. <br /> He noted that the property in question is the James Madison Elementary School. He then <br /> reviewed in summary fashion, the information provided in the packet attached to the <br /> Ordinance(copy attached). <br /> Peg Luecke spoke in favor of the proposed Ordinance. She noted that she has been a <br /> parent with children going to this school for the past sixteen years and has been a member <br /> of organizations reviewing the feasibility study. She believes that the building in question <br /> merits the consideration as an historic landmark. <br /> The Council Attorney questioned whether notice to the South Bend School Corporation had <br /> been provided since they are not listed on the notice. After checking with the City Clerk's <br /> office,it was noted that the South Bend Schools had not received notice,but that that office <br /> would be in contact. <br /> Council Member Hosinski noted that he agrees with the comments of Mrs. Luecke. <br /> Council Member Kelly suggested that the Committee proceed ahead with action on this <br /> proposed bill. <br /> Following further discussion,Council Member Varner made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Broden that Bill No. 23-97 be recommended favorably to Council.
