fdnmmtiln Road <br /> (?!n Of Olnmo ntt &Iountil of Or Ong of boutil Ainit PARK AND RECREATION COMMITTEE <br /> The March 26,1984 meeting of the Park and Recreation Committee <br /> was called to order by its Chairman, Councilman Joseph Serge at 4 :.40 p.m. <br /> in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> • Persons in attendance included; Councilmen Braboy, Puzzello, Paszek, <br /> Serge, Crone, Voorde, Beck, and Zakrzewski, James Seitz, Carol Sheetz, Robert <br /> Niezgodski, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> It was noted that the meeting had been called by Vice-:Chairman <br /> Puzzello to discuss Bill No. 27-84. <br /> Park Superintendent James Seitz then explained that Bill No. 27-84 <br /> would appropriate $1, 060, 000 of funds from the U.S. Dept. of Interior and <br /> $34, 697 of funds from the U.S. Small Business Administration to the Park <br /> District Bond Construction Fund for a total amount of $1,094,697. Mr. Seitz <br /> noted that the East Race Way was 97% completed and that the money had been <br /> used for grading, excavating, landscaping and renovating. of the old abandoned <br /> raceway into a• canoe and kayak course, fish ladders, boat ramps, trails, benches , <br /> and a hydro-electrical generator. <br /> Councilman Serge asked whether any land was available for lease and <br /> Mr. Seitz said there was not. Councilman Puzzello was advised that Redevelopment <br /> should be contacted with regard to prospective shop locations. Mr. Seitz <br /> noted that it would be 1986 through 1987 before the cold water fish would be <br /> running. <br /> Councilman Voorde asked whether Mr. Weinberg' proposal for an <br /> alternate site for Frederickson Park on the west side of town was being <br /> considered. Mr. Seitz declined comment on whether the Park Board would change <br /> its decision on the park location. . <br /> Councilman Crone asked when the Council would have an update on the <br /> safety and security plans for the East Raceway. She noted that she had <br /> volunteered to assist for the planning of the raceway as a private individual <br /> but,had never been contacted. Mr. Seitz noted that the volunteers have been <br /> meeting and that Councilman Puzzello was the Council representative. <br /> Councilman Voorde thought the Tribune editorial had been unfair <br /> regarding the security issue. It was noted that the City had not accepted the <br /> project and that it was still under control of the contractor. It was also <br /> noted that Island Park was under the control of the Board of Works but <br /> maintained by the Park Department. Mr. Seitz noted that he had refused to <br /> pay for the canopies at Island Park. <br /> Following further discussion Councilman Puzzello made a motion seconded <br /> by Councilman Paszek that Bill No. 27-84 go to1Cbuncil favorably. The motion <br /> passed unanimously.
