lxIommtYtrr 3i'r,pnrt <br /> MI tilt (gammon.(IIounrtl of tip (IIttj of bout!! linib: PUBLIC SAFETY <br /> The March 26, 1984 meeting of the Public Safety Committee was called <br /> to order at 5 : 55 p.m. by its Chairman Councilman Robert Taylor in the Council <br /> informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Councilmen; Taylor, Braboy, Zakrzewski, <br /> 'Paszek, Puzzello, Crone, Voorde, Beck, and Serge; Carol Sheetz, John <br /> Leszczynski, Dick Maginot, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Mr. Leszczynski then explained Bill No. 26-84 which would appropriate <br /> $75,000 of revenue sharing money for the building of a new east sector <br /> sub-station. He noted that the existing house is located at 420 N. Francis St. <br /> It was recommended that the building be demolished and re-built. He noted <br /> that the new structure will be compatible with the neighborhood, and that <br /> $15,000 had already been approved. <br /> Councilman Crone questioned by the'_Council should act on the <br /> appropriation bill now. She did not see that it was a necessity especially <br /> since the City was only in the design phase. She noted that she was not <br /> proposing a delay just for the sake of delay but rather thought the City <br /> should know what it was getting for its money. <br /> Mr. Leszczynski reinterated that the building was unsafe and that . <br /> within approximately 30 days they would have -designs ready. Approximately <br /> 10 to 15 thousand dollars would be paid for designs. He noted that 3 estimates <br /> had been received from contractors to take down the building and build a <br /> new structre all for less than $75,000. <br /> John Voorde expressed concern about going forward with the project <br /> when no plans were in hand. He questioned whether the City was committed to <br /> the site, and was advised that it was. <br /> Councilman Braboy noted that the cost factor should be carefully <br /> weighed since construction fees are always going higher. Councilman Paszek <br /> noted that it was similar to the position he was in as Portage Twp. Trustee <br /> when faced with buying the old TCU building. Councilman Puzzello did not want <br /> to take any action to put off the project. Carol Sheetz questioned how large <br /> the building would be and was informed that the City projected 1,600 sq. ft. <br /> with a full basement. Councilman Beck wanted to control the final costs and <br /> expressed concern about appropriating money now and then being expected to <br /> pay more money later. Councilman ;Voorde asked who the designer was, and was <br /> informed that it was Korbuly-GT- ,Inc, with offices at 340 S. Columbia. <br /> Following further discusiion by the Committee Joseph Serge made a motion <br /> seconded by Beverlie Beck to recommend Bill No, 26-84 favorably to Council. <br /> No action was taken on the motion since Councilman Serge was not a Committee <br /> member. Councilman Beck then made a motion seconded by Councilman Taylor that <br /> the Bill No. 26-84 go to Council favorably. The motion lost 2-2 . Councilman <br /> Zakrzewski then made a motion seconded by Councilman Crone to continue the bill <br /> for 30 days. The motion lost 2-2. Since the Committee could not come to a <br /> concensus, ,, the Bill will go to Council without a recommendation.
