flnmmtrtrr Erpnrt <br /> t�n tjjt ennui= Couz ttl atilt (Mg of f►nutli limb UTILITIES COMMITTEE <br /> • <br /> The March 28 ,'.1983 meeting of the Utilities Committee was called to <br /> order by its Chairman Councilman Walter Szymkowiak at 4 :00 in the Council <br /> informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Councilmen Zielinski, Szymkowiak, Beck, <br /> Harris, and Voorde, Citizen Members Ross, Caldwell, and Frank Kuminecz, <br /> Michael Vance, Dick Maginot, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Councilman Szymkowiak noted that the purpose of the meeting was to <br /> discuss two bills namely No. 23-83 and 24-83 which are set for public hearing <br /> at tonight'ss council meeting. ' <br /> 'Mx. Vance explained that Bill No. 23-83 would approve a contract between <br /> Gates Chevrolet and the Board of Water Works Commissioners in the amount of <br /> $19, 555. 19. This would be for two mobile operator vehicles and an automobile <br /> for the Superintendent of Maintenance. He noted that in January of this year <br /> the Council approved a similar with Basney-Ford, however due to Ford Motor Co. <br /> discontinuance of the Ford Fairmont they were unable to deliver the vehicles. <br /> Gates Chevrolet was the only bidder and it was lower than the first bid in <br /> January. Following discussion Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by <br /> . Councilman Beck that the bill be reported favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed 3-0. <br /> Mr. Vance explained that Bill No. 24-83 would approve a contract between <br /> Carl J. Reinke and Sons, Inc. and the Board of Water Works Commissioners in the <br /> amount of $148,000. 00. - It would be for the construction of a half million gallon <br /> clear well at Edison Park Water Filtration Plant. This was the lowest of <br /> 13 bidders. The present capacity is between 90 to 100, 000 gallons. A clear <br /> well is basically a .buffer zone between the plant and distribution. It would <br /> measure 350 feet around. He noted that it would also have a dual capacity, <br /> for it would function as a basketball court in Edison Park. He also noted that <br /> the earth removed would be made into a sledding hill. The construction would <br /> offset the chemicals within a four-five year period. The present balance of <br /> the depreciation fund is $345 ,758. 02 , and if the two bills are passed the <br /> balance would be $177,202. 83. Councilman Szymkowiak discussed the need for <br /> safety equipment for personnel at the Water Filtration Plant; and requested <br /> that a stamp be purchased so that when persons pay their utility bills in <br /> person they can be marked paid with the date. Following further discussion <br /> Councilman Zielinski made a motion seconded by Councilman Beck that the Bill <br /> be reported favorably to Council. The motion passed 3-0.
