January 8, 2021
Kyle Silveus, PE
Assistant City Engineer
227 W. Jefferson Blvd.
1316 County-City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Dear Mr. Silveus:
Trail projects can appear to be a walk in the park to those of us in the engineering field, but to the many
families in the adjacent neighborhoods that have to adjust their lives during construction, it becomes
inconvenient and frustrating without effective communication and coordination by an experienced
construction team. The city of South Bend’s Coal Line Trail, Phase I construction inspection project
will be a success with a construction management team who will bring solid communication skills,
recent trail experience, seamless construction coordination, and familiarity with the project area.
Burke has experience working for the city on challenging construction inspection projects. Our team
knows and understands your process. This knowledge, experience, and longstanding established
relationship provide us with the tools to avoid gaps or missteps in the construction management
process.
Our proposed subconsultant, Advanced Engineering Services (AES), completes our construction
management team and is a registered MBE/DBE. AES will be a key member to our team by providing
crucial material testing and geotechnical support. Our commitment to detail and strong communications
has afforded us a reputation as a professional team that can address nearly any construction issue, even
an accidental discovery like the one found on the Boland Trail project.
We applaud your efforts to improve the trail connectivity in South Bend and we look forward to
working with you during the construction of this project. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Jon D. Stolz, PE
Managing Vice President
jstolz@cbbel-in.com
Indianapolis
Columbus
Crown Point
South Bend
cbbel-in.com
317-266-8000
