Ironwood
Drive to announce this year's homes.
"This is one of the things I enjoy about being apart of the Rebuilding Together project,"
said Rucker. "I enjoy working with the volunteers who come together to rehabilitate the
homes of low-income homeowners, particularly impacting the elderly and disabled. This
is our 24th year of undertaking this project."
This April, 800 volunteers will join Rebuilding Together to make home repairs worth
more than $300,000, which includes a minimum of 12 roof replacements, six furnace
upgrades, and several painting projects.
This year's effort will take place on two Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The first
project date is April 14 for the Skilled Trades Day. The second date is April 21 for the
Community Volunteer Day.
Established locally in 1989, Rebuilding Together (known as Christmas in April until
2002)has rehabilitated 809 homes—worth $10.4 million in repairs —in an effort to
restore safety, comfort, and dignity to the occupants. Repairs vary from yard clean-up and
trash removal to minor repairs such as small carpentry jobs and painting to major skilled
tasks such as roofing work and updating electrical and plumbing systems. All repairs are
completed at no cost to the homeowner.
1400 COUNTY-CITY BUILDING•227 W.IEFFERSON BOULEVARD•SOUTH BEND,INDIANA 46601
PHONE 574/235-9261• FAx 574/235-9892
