SpUTQ 6 <br />, \A4I ICl /���O <br />Community & Economic Development <br />1865 <br />1200 County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson, South Bend, Indiana 46601 -1830 Phone 574/235 -9371 Fax 574/235 -9021 <br />To: Redevelopment Commission v�n&`s <br />From: Tamara Nicholl- Smith, Department of Economic Development / Don <br />South Bend <br />Subject: Request for participation funds — infrastructure improvements <br />113 E Wayne Street (Blarney Stone) <br />Date: October 11, 2011 <br />This is a request to the Redevelopment Commission for funds to support an infrastructure <br />improvement project in the South Bend Central Development Area (SBCDA). <br />The Redevelopment Commission has been asked to partner with the Board of Public Works <br />in the extension of a water main and attendant sidewalk and street repair to allow for the <br />redevelopment of a downtown property that includes the adaptive re -use of a vacant <br />second floor space and a Downtown South Bend Inc. fagade improvement grant (see <br />attached renderings). <br />In addition to the redevelopment opportunity, this project will also ensure the retention of an <br />existing downtown business — the Blarney Stone — as a result of a fire protections system to <br />be installed in conjunction with this project. (see attached legal memo). <br />The Board of Public Works has agreed to an in -kind contribution of labor and equipment <br />(valued at approximately $10,000) and is asking Redevelopment to provide the materials at <br />a cost not to exceed $10,000. The building owner will invest $17,000 for the fire <br />suppression system and an additional $25,000 for fagade improvements <br />Staff requests a non -to- exceed amount of $10,000 (based on a materials list and scope of <br />work) to support this project. <br />What We Do Today Makes A Difference! <br />
