SOUTH BEND BOARD OF PARK CONMUSSIONERS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> JUNE 20, 2011 <br /> The Board of Park Commissioners of the Park District of the City of South Bend, Indiana met on <br /> Monday June 20, 2011 at the O'Brien Administration&Recreation Center, 321 E. Walter St., <br /> South Bend, Indiana for its regular meeting. Notice of the date,time and place of the meeting were <br /> duly given as required by law. <br /> Park Board members present were as follows: <br /> Mr. Robert Goodrich,Vice President <br /> Dr. Thomas Kelly <br /> Mr. Garrett Mullins <br /> Park Board members absent were as follows: <br /> Mr. Robert Henry,President <br /> Staff members present: Phil St. Clair, Superintendent; Bill Carleton,Director of Finance; Betsy <br /> Harriman,Administrative Director; Susan O'Connor,Recreation Director; Paul McMinn,Assistant <br /> Recreation Director; TJ Mannen,Elbel Golf Pro and Manager; Terry DeRosa,Zoo Director; <br /> Richard Payton,Development Director;Mike Dyszkiewicz,Maintenance Superintendent; Thomas <br /> Bodnar,Park Board Attorney <br /> I. The meeting was called to order by Board Vice-President Robert Goodrich at 4:03 p.m. <br /> H. The first order of business was the interviewing of interested citizens. <br /> 1. Mayor Stephen Luecke was present to congratulate Director St. Clair for being the longest <br /> serving Director of Parks in South Bend's history. Mr. Goodrich and Ms. Puzzello spoke <br /> commending him for long term commitment to the department. She said the City council <br /> would also recognize him at their next meeting. <br /> Director St. Clair thanked everyone and recognized the mayors he has worked for,the Park <br /> Board and the department staff for all their work and dedication during his tenure. <br /> HI. Report by the Potawatomi Zoological Society <br /> 1. Ms. Marcy Dean,Executive Director,reported that the first Family Fun Walk was held <br /> June 11. Over one hundred registered to take part. The fees will go toward the otter exhibit. <br /> 2. Since the beginning of the year the Society has funded several animal support items, <br /> including a wild dog,two geckos, some frogs and an anteater. Also, support for the new <br /> vet. <br /> 3. Several media stories have covered the butterfly exhibit opening,the birth of the takin, <br /> the otter walk and other otter stories. <br /> 4. The Butterfly exhibit is open and doing well. <br /> 5. Upcoming special events are the member's picnic on 7/16,the Zoo to Do will be held <br /> 8/5 at Juday Creek, and the Zoo Brew will be held at the Zoo on 9/10. <br /> - - I - - <br />
