REGULAR AEETING <br />t.. <br />Regular meeting of Board:of Public Safety was held at 8 :30.A.M. <br />on I- Jonday April 29,1935, <br />All menbers were present. <br />The minutes of meeting of April 22nd were read and approved. <br />Requisitions bearing the following numbers were approved,08448.08449 <br />08450. 08452.08453.08454.08455.08456. 08457.08458,08459.08460.08461. <br />08462.08463.08464. <br />Claims were.-allowed in the amount of 251.85. from the following supplier <br />General Sheet Mental forks Inc 64.00 C.H.BeFrees Inc 18.75 <br />gum F.�ualls for u'.L.Sausaman 64.00 Goodyear Service .50 <br />Thomas Wilhelm 5.00 Goodyear Service .50 <br />J.I.. Holcomb h1fg Co. 39.94 <br />.Greek American Sponge Co. 33.08 <br />Elkhart Brass blgg Co 3.88 <br />Syel Bartlett 8.00 <br />The Gamewell Co. 3.70 <br />A.G.Meier & Co. 9.00 <br />South Bend Wholesale Drug Co. 1.50 <br />Officer Homer Ames responded to the Boards call and was presen.t.to <br />discuss his personal obligations and after a thorough discussion the <br />secretary was instructed to confer with the First Bank &'Trust in an <br />effort to relieve the strain on officer Ames in paying interest charges <br />on one, of his loans..enabling him to reduce his obligations raster <br />Fire :wept Chief present. <br />The Chief.reported that on April 24'in responding to an alarm from box <br />512 engine No 3 broke down and is out of service indefintelry as.it is <br />impossible to get repairs for it as this type engine is obsolite and_ <br />all repair parts would have to machined outat a large expense.The <br />Chief recommended that a 1000 gal pumping engine be purchased.It was <br />moved seconddd and carried that the comr,�on councel be requested to <br />authorize the purchase of an engine as recommended_ by the chief. <br />The secretary was instructed to inform Fibs :Abel that the bell taken from <br />the Central Fire Station is contributed to the Northern Indiana <br />Historical Society and to request them to call for it. <br />Police Dept Chief Lane present. <br />Robert u'atts,colord application for position on the police force was <br />interviewed.It was moved seconded and carried that he be put on the <br />police force subject to physical exa nation and to assignment by the <br />chief of ;police to take effect 1,1ay l9t. <br />The matter of ueputizin certain ;ersons to report traffic violations <br />was discussed and after a th.orour,•h analysis it t °,,as decided to take no <br />action at this time. <br />A letter from 1jr & Mrs Gill eras read in which they reported an <br />indebtedness to them of 150.00 by Chester Wil_;Zot an officer on the <br />police force.After discussion the secretary was instructed to inform <br />fi,lr & iiss Gill that no relief could be offered_ tr?en.T'he secretary wrote <br />them as follows. <br />l ?rs S.S.Gill <br />Your letter of April 26t} has been reed to the Board_ of <br />Public Safety in regard to Chester �'`il.not.The chairri.ar. of title Board <br />IIr Edwin VT.Hunter advised that he had had a telk v,.itr you in- -�vhich he <br />informed you that there was no ivay in which the Board could be of help <br />to you because Officer 4rilmot had restored to bankruptcy.-proceedings <br />and had listed his indebtness to you in this action. The City of. South <br />Bend or its Board of Public Safety could not undertake to act as. a <br />collection agency against its eriployes but 'will be glad to recommend_ <br />favorable consideration-of your account. <br />Lour s Truly <br />�ecy. <br />The :secretary reported his investi��ation of tl_s Cities Service Co <br />claim for gasoline furnished in 1930 and not paid for by ~previous boards <br />The matter was refered to the City Controller and Secretary and it <br />was agreed the claim 'could be paid next year and included in next Year <br />budget if there was suffieent a -�)oropritation :i r gasoline aec -)-a-a ; <br />F, time merchandise was received. <br />The Chief of Police su.,!7r-ested that the association of funeral directors <br />were willing to pa_y for the services of a 'special policeman to <br />superintend and direct funeral processions through tine City at no <br />
