REGULAR MEETING <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held at 8:30 A. M. <br />Monday, February 25, 1935. Mr. Woodward was absent. <br />Minutes of the meeting of February 18, 1935 were read and approved. <br />Requisitions bearing the following numbers were approved: <br />08330 to 08343 inclusive, 08345 to 08349 inclusive. <br />Also claims amounting to 4469.65 from the following: <br />Taylor's Service Stores 417..27 Wi.lhelmts Auto Body Shop 4 12.00 <br />Ditto 44.30` U.S. Fingerprint Prod.Co. 10.75 <br />.75 Abso Clean Cloth Co. 5.50 <br />�* 25900 Noisom- Jeweler 1.00 <br />n .50 Frank S. Andrews 13.13 <br />11.70 Goodyear Service, Inc. .50 <br />n 1.00 Tyler -Keim Tire Co. 13.85 <br />Scherman Schaus Freeman Co. .70 Gafill Oil Co. 5.80 <br />Scherman Schaus Freeman Co. 2.10 S. B. Electric Co. 6.28 <br />Belleville Lumber & Sup. Co. 62.50 -Hamilton Rubber Mfg. Co. 235.00 <br />The case of Police Chief Laurence J. Lane vs. 1m. Ortman was called <br />and evidence was taken from the following: <br />Irwin D. Landis <br />Mrs. Wm. Ortman <br />Miss Eleanor McMillen <br />John Nichols <br />John McMillen <br />Wm. Ortman <br />Chief L. J. Lane <br />After hearing the evidence, the Board withheld its decision until its <br />next regular meeting. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT -Chief Freeh present: <br />Matters pertaining to this department were discussed. <br />Bids on 1000 feet of'fire hose were opened and upon recommendation of <br />Chief Freeh, the order was placed as follows: <br />Boston Woven Hose Co. 400 feet Q 950 per foot <br />Manhattan Rubber Co. 300 feet G 95¢ per foot <br />American LaFrance Co. 300 feet Q 95¢ per foot <br />Chief Freeh outlined first aid equipment that was badly needed and he <br />was authorized by the Board to purchase such-supplies from the Reliance <br />Pharmacy. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT-Mr. Qualls present: <br />Mr. Qualls brought up the question of stop light visors, demonstrating <br />a new construction which would prevent excessive breakage that has <br />been experienced in the past and at the same time save approximately <br />$6.00 per installation in original cost_. The Secretary was instruc- <br />ted to look up an appropriation and report at the meeting, Monday, <br />March 4th. <br />Mr. Qualls reported that he would like to have the privilege .of <br />changing the placing of the order for plates for the Fire Alarm <br />system with the American Automatic Electric Sales Co. instead of the <br />Gould Storage Battery Co. at the same or lesser price. The Board <br />concurred. <br />Mr. Qualls reported damage to traffic signal at Western Ave. and <br />Olive St. caused by one of the trucks of the .Great Lakes Forwarding <br />Co. The matter was referred to the City Attorney. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT -Chief Lane present: <br />Mr. Irving Hurwich representing the Indiana Cab Co. and Mr. Geo. <br />Farage, representing the South Bend Cab Co. appeared before the Board <br />and were advised that the Board postponed the execution it had <br />given the Indiana Cab Co. of parking privilege on Jefferson St. at <br />Michigan until its meeting on March 4th because there had been so <br />many objections on the part of other cab companies and that the. Mayor <br />had promised the South Bend Cab Co. a hearing before any privilege <br />would be granted. The Secretary was instructed to notify all cab <br />companies.to appear on Monday, March 4th so that an analysis of the <br />
