REGULAR 14EETING <br />Regular weekly meeting of the Board of Public Safety was Meld at 2:00 <br />P. f, Saturday, 1iay 19, 1934. All members present. <br />Bills totalling $377.03 and ?gearing the followi_no requisition numbers <br />were approved: <br />02635 02687 02730 02729.07335 07306 07285 07305 07337 0735207340 07339 <br />07345 02935 02740 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />Fire Chief, Roy A. Knoblock, present and the activities of his depart - <br />ment Aiscussed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />The-following communication was read: <br />May 16, 1934 <br />"To` the Board of Public Safety: <br />I herewith submit my resignation as a member of the South Bend Police <br />Department effective this date. <br />Signed John B. KueNpert <br />It was carried that the above resignation be accepted. <br />The following communication was then read: <br />May 17, 1934 <br />"Board of Public Safety, <br />City of South Bend, Indiana. <br />Gentlemen: <br />I have this day appointed Mr. Michael C. Hanley as Chief of Police <br />of the City of South Bend,effective this date. <br />Very truly yours <br />R. HINi= <br />Mayor <br />After discussion the Board on motion by Mr, Trost, seconded by Mr. <br />Gadacz with an objection by ir. McSorley refused to ratify this <br />appointment and it was decided that Assistant Chief, Horace 11. Hamilton, <br />continue as Acting Chief, and Officer Leo Berner as Acting Assistant <br />Chief. <br />Acting Chief, Horace a1. Hamilton, present and the <br />department discussed. <br />It was decided that at the intersection of Indian, <br />STOP signs be put up at Indiana Ave. and the Stop <br />remain as at present. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Superintendent, Wm. F. Qualls, not present due to <br />activities of his <br />a Ave. and 1,.,Iain.St. <br />signs on," ::gain St. <br />a death in his family. <br />The Clerk was instructed to !send a letter of condolence to 1,1r.
