UTN
Community & Economic Development= _' °,,
1200 County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson, South Bend, Indiana 46601 -1830 ♦ Phone 574/235 -9371 ♦ Fax 574/235 -9021
To: Redevelopment Commission
From: Geri Hathaway
Subject: Ignition Park Proposal for Land Use Planning /Assessment, Visioning &
Master Planning, Architectural Design Concepts and Site Work Budgeting
Date: November 30, 2010
Economic Development requests your approval of the attached Proposal for Ignition Park Lan Use
Planning, Visioning and Master Planning, architectural Design Concept Development and Site Work
Budgeting prepared by BSA LifeStructures.
It is timely to consider the manner in which Ignition Park should be developed. Innovation Park has
met its 1St year goals and there is significant effort by Project Future, Notre Dame and the private
sector to identify methods to assist the commercialization of research on the campus of Notre Dame.
This should lead to the graduation of Innovation Park tenants to Ignition Park. A Business Asset
Inventory is being developed, not only to aid in that commercialization effort, but to also identify the
existing regional businesses that can assist and benefit by inclusion in that process. This could lead
to growth and expansion of some of those local businesses, again with potential tenancy at Ignition
Park. In addition, we are beginning to receive calls from potential tenants, and need to respond very
swiftly.
It is imperative that we understand how to best develop the physical aspects of Ignition Park in a
flexible manner, utilizing the most progressive methods to provide economic, community and
ecological benefit.
Ignition Park is a Certified Technology Park and it is anticipated that "technology" is a key
component. Therefore, in order to ensure cohesive architectural and engineering services is deemed
most prudent. BSA LifeStructures, based in Indianapolis, is such a firm. They have an impressive
legacy of work and come highly recommended by Doug Marsh and his staff at Notre Dame for their
work on the Stinson Remick Hall of Engineering and the Indiana University School of Medicine
adjacent to the Notre Dame Campus.
This request is only the first of many steps in the actual development of Ignition Park It is our intent
to be before you again in the near future with a proposal for the development of a business plan. It is
important that these two initiatives progress in tandem because the work from one assists in
120310 memo Ignition Park.doc What We Do Today Makes A Difference 1
