C CC)
SpUTH g
Community & Economic Development
1J865 q:
1200 County -City Building, 227 West Jefferson, South Bend, Indiana 46601 -1830 Phone 574/235 -9371 Fax 574/235 -9021
To: Redevelopment Commission
From: David Relos, Economic Development Planner/ -
Subject: Commission owned site landscaping "`^^^"'
Date: April 09, 2010
In an effort to continue the beautification of the downtown area, staff suggests the following
proposal for three Commission owned vacant lots. All three lots are adjacent to large paved
parking areas. The planting of trees on these lots will break up the stark nature of these
areas, and will create a welcoming feel to the surrounding areas. The following quotes
were given by the Park Department's City Forester.
The grassy lot at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets has long been vacant. Proposed
for this lot are 14 flowering trees in an infill pattern. Total cost for this lot is $4,317.
The Manor site, at 118 S. William Street, is now cleared and hydro- seeded. As part of the
demo, a large beautiful maple tree had to be removed. Proposed for this double lot are 11
flowering, ornamental trees along its western edge. Total cost for this lot is $3,283.
The third and largest area is the southwest corner of La Salle and William streets. These
lots used to house Basic Machine, and have been vacant for years. Proposed for this area
are 18 trees in an infill pattern. Total cost is $5,564.
Total cost of these three quotes is $13,164. Staff requests your approval in a not to exceed
amount of $14,000, to allow for unforeseen contingencies.
What We Do Today Makes A Difference!
