Animal Control Commission Minutes March 2, 2017 7:00 p.m. <br />Commission Members Present: Betsy Culp, Ernest Galos, Barbara Leavell <br />Citizen Members Present: None <br />Council Members Present: Jo Broden <br />City Staff Present: Jen Gobel, SBACC; Stephanie Steele, Assistant <br />CityAttorney <br />Agenda: Meeting called to Order at 7:04 p.m. Ernest <br />Galos indicates he sent proposed minutes of February meeting. Ms. Leavell moves <br />to accept them, Dr. Culp seconds and the minutes are accepted unanimously. The <br />members also approved the meeting minutes prepared by Ernest Galos for the July, <br />2016 meeting with Dr. Culp moving to accept and Barb Leavell seconding. Passed <br />unanimously. Copies of the minute notes taken for June, August and October, 2016 <br />by Emily Sexton were also accepted unanimously. Ernest Galos indicates he <br />listened to the recording of the December meeting again as Ms. Kaiser had some <br />questions. He notes that the minutes were accepted and are accurate. <br />Annual Report submitted the previous day to the Council and Mayor's <br />Office. . <br />Jenn Gobel provided intake and outgo information to compare to previous <br />year. Intakes down 11 from 133. :Rescues this year were48 vs. 44; 36 dogs v. 32 <br />cats 12 and 12. Returned to owner also improved. No never outcomes. Only 23 vs. <br />32 animal euthanized. Only 5 dogs this year, 12 cats v. 13. Rest were wildlife. Only <br />1 dog put down for aggression. 2 Feral cats put down TNR saved 4 others. Ernest <br />Galos asked what wildlife calls they respond to. Ms. Gobel indicates if injured, bat <br />calls in house. If healthy wildlife is caught, released back into wild near shelter. <br />Jenn Gobel indicates new animal control officer started. Stacia Orlowski <br />promoted to assistant manager. Upcoming events at Chip and tag at Pets Supplies <br />Plus on 3/25. Good Dog TechTraining offered free for all adoptions. Citations <br />have increased as officers actively enforcing. Partnered with Ft. Wayne Pitbull <br />Coalition to get mom and 9 puppies out of shelter. Shelter closed one day for <br />seminar on dog fighting. Began working with Meow Mission. PetPoint microchip <br />updated. Auto uploads to Petfinder and Adopt A Pet started. <br />Ernest Galos asked if Meow Mission working in River Park. Ms. Gobel <br />unsure. Stephanie Steele indicated the City would check. Dr. Culp asked about <br />uniform training for everyone regarding Parrvo. Ms. Gobel wants to reinforce <br />importance of cleanliness. Dr. Culp recommends letting disinfectant sit on surfaces <br />to insure it works effectively. Heart worm protection being used. Discussion of <br />particular brands ensued.
