Honorable Common Council
City of South Bend, Indiana
Mrs. Allen and Gentlemen:
Before you as members of the Committee of the Whole next Monday evening, March 8, is a proposed
salary ordinance fixing salaries for elected city officials effective January 1, 1972.
We have reviewed the proposal and make the following recommendations for your earliest
Salary of Mayor
Members of the Common Council
Judge of the City Court
City Clerk
$25,000.00 to remain the same in view of the
sizeable increase four years ago.
$ 3,000.00 to remain the same in view of the
previous increase.
-0- as position is eliminated.
$ 7,000.00 because of the greatly reduced work
load since the Clerk will have no
court work or records.
The Clerk's salary recommendation is based on a comparison with the salaries and duties of the
Clerk of the Board of Works and Safety and the Secretary to the Mayor. And to assist you in
knowing what the duties will be when the Court work is no longer the responsibility of the Clerk
we are attaching a photostat copy of the duties as listed in Burns Statutes.
The above recommendation is made after review and study by our Executive Committee and Board of
Respectfully submitted,
