<br />A copy of this R solution has been sent to'each of the Post Commanders in South Bend, and I have made
<br />request of E ch Commander to send as many members of their Post as possible, to the Council meeting June 17th. If we
<br />have as many Comrades at the meeting that we anticipate having, the Resolution will get some real personal backing.

<br />WHEREAS, our government is now engaged in lodging a program for the defense of our country and,
<br />WHEREAS, our government has a right to expect the united support of all citizens in this program and,
<br />THEREAS, there has been distributed in the City of South Bend certain pamphlets purporting to advocate
<br />the adoption of a communistic form of Zovernment in this country,
<br />NOW' THEREFORE, in protesting the distribution of such pamphlets and desiring to uphold our government
<br />in protecting the interests of our country and its people, Post 1303 of the American Legion does hereby petition yol
<br />Honorable Council to take such,steps as are necessary to curtail the distribution of communistic and subversive pam.
<br />phlets in our City.
<br />Post $303 further petitions your Honorable Council to the end that the proper authorities of the City
<br />South Bend shall investigate and prosecute all persons distributing such literature without proper authority and
<br />against the peace and common good of the citizens of South Send.

<br />Councilman Bishop made a motion that the City Attorney draw an ordinance prohibiting the distribution of nay un-
<br />american literature. Councilman Pulaski seconded the motion. Motion carried 9 - 0.

<br />Your Committee of the "Whole to whom was referred an ordinance authorizing the contribution of the sum of not to ex-
<br />ceed three thousand (*13000.00) Dollars from the General Fund of the "later Works of the City of South Bend, for the
<br />pavement of ?rest Angela Avenue between Riverside Drive and Woodward .Avenue.

<br />to confer with petitioning parties and the owner and user of property involved to a ttempt a solution of situation.
