Earnest calls meeting to order @ 6:30 p.m.
Minutes:
Motion to accept minutes from 3/15/16, 1st- Becky, 2nd -Barb, 4 ayes
New Business:
Becky and Matt discuss the Memorial Day parade. Matt confirms that SBACC will participate in
the parade, including a float
-Emily follows up on roll call with police and SBACC officers having a meeting in regards to
our local ordinance and what can/can't be enforced, which department is responsible for
-Becky talked with Police chief and is calling Jeff 4/6/16 to schedule a meeting the following
week.
- Emily: will this be a preliminary meeting?
- Becky: brainstorming meeting and I'll take notes so you guys have a better idea
- Emily: it would be a good idea for all of most or all of the commission
- Becky: I know the county police are writing a lot of their citations for the humane society. Can
the police write a citation since they have the capability?
- Matt/Jim: Police can write ordinances, but typically will call animal control
- Becky: Instead of calling the police, if it's an animal welfare issue...
-Matt: if it's an animal welfare issue I have mixed emotions on the police handling that. In our
meeting with the police we can discuss our perspective as SBACC, what is your perspective as
police.
-Matt: We aren't full service after hours so we are restricted and must prioritize our calls. Getting
priorities in stone is key and educating the public on what we can and can't do.
- Becky: One of the problems is that sometimes when we have criminal issues come up in animal
control they are not deemed a priority, and certain cases have slipped out of our hands to
prosecute because of improper follow up or enforcement.
-Matt: chain of command issue but it's all something that can be worked on
Some discussion of going after the prosecutors and whether the police would be on board with
that. Need paperwork to back up their cases that aren't being pursued.
Matt requests that Stephanie Steele be involved in the meeting between SBACC and Police.
Follow UP:
Becky asks Emy about the rummage sale: Date is tentatively planned for a Thurs. Fri. Sat., at the
church by Howard Park. Raised and avg. of $4,000.00 in 2015.
Matt: Bark & Brew is May 20th /Crooked Ewe
Betsy: Are there any hearings coming up?
Matt: There will be some in May 2016
Erny: How many bite cases?
Matt: 230 - something
J. Chamberlin, including police reports of dog bites
J. Chamberlin explains to the commission about the K -9 dogs: where they purchase the dogs,
their training, etc. See video /recording for full information.
