SOUTH BEND REACHES
TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH POLICE OFFICERS
The negotiating team representing sworn members of the Fraternal Order of
Police (FOP) Lodge # 36 and the negotiating team representing the South Bend Common
Council, the Board of Safety, the Police and City Administrations reached a tentative
contract agreement late yesterday afternoon. The agreement includes specific working
conditions as well as salary and benefits for the 2010 Salary Ordinance. Details of the
tentative agreement are confidential.
Negotiations between the FOP and the City of South Bend began in early August.
The FOP will have a series of informational meetings with its membership beginning
Sunday at 2 pm at Police Headquarters Auditorium to share the details of the tentative
agreement with the police officers. A ratification vote will begin thereafter.
The South Bend Common Council will call a special Council meeting for

Wednesday, September 30 to take final action on the salary ordinance. That is the
deadline requiring all financial items for police to be finalized under Indiana state law.
The tentative agreement is the result of Police management, labor and City
officials working together. The package promotes the public safety of the officers, as
well as that of the citizens of City of South Bend in a fiscally prudent manner.
