HomeMy WebLinkAboutEstablishing a date and location for a formal retirement ceremony of the South Bend City FlagAttes RESOLUTION No. 4560 -16 Passed by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana April 25, 2016 Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana April 26, 20 16 City Clerk dent of Common Council Approved and signed by me t2-C: t 20 City Clerk 0 SUBSTITUTE BILL NO. 16 -39 RESOLUTION NO. 4 5 (2 0 11 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ESTABLISHING A DATE AND LOCATION FOR THE FORMAL RETIREMENT CEREMONY OF THE SOUTH BEND CITY FLAG TO A PLACE OF HONOR Gam, the South Bend Common Council notes that on November 10, 2015, it adopted Resolution No. 4509 -15 which formalized a process for public participation and selection of a new City Flag for the City of South Bend, Indiana; with that Resolution also calling for the Council to "...adopt a Resolution setting forth the date and proper procedures to retire the current City Flag to a place of honor; and 6W), the City Flag which has proudly flown in South Bend for the past several years displays the official City Seal, which was formally adopted before 1933, and is depicted as follows: Gam,, at this evening's meeting of the South Bend Common Council, Bill No. 07 -16 is on the agenda to formally approve a new City Flag for the City of South Bend, to incorporate provisions into the South Bend Municipal Code, with the new flag depicted as follows: 61) ", in light of the action taken by the Common Council on Bill No. 07 -16, it is appropriate to establishment procedures and a date to retire the original City Flag. i Section I. The South Bend Common Council in conjunction with the City Administration hereby set the official retirement ceremony of the original South Bend City Flag to take place on Friday, May 6, 2016, Resolution Establishing the Date and Place for the Retirement of Original City Flag Page 2 at 10:30 a.m. at flag pole immediately in front of the South Bend Police Department Headquarters, 701 W. Sample Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601. Section II. The Common Council encourages members of the public to attend this City Flag Retirement Ceremony, as a new chapter in the history of South Bend, Indiana is written. Section III. As a part City Flag Retirement Ceremony, the original City Flag shall be housed in a place of honor for the public to see for generations to come, with the History Museum being charged with this high honor.
