Presented by me to the Mayor of the City of South Bend, Indiana City Clerk President of Common Council October 14, 19 97 City Clerk Approved and signed by me October 14, 19 97 Mayor ORDINANCE NO. ~(~.~ ~ "~ AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AMENDING CERTAIN MONETARY FRINGE BENEFITS FOR FIREFIGHTERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND DURING THE CALENDAR YEARS OF 1998, 1999 AND 2000. In 1996, the South Bend Common Council passed certain ordinances fixing the annual pay and monetary fringe benefits of Firefighters of the South Bend Fire Department for the calendar years 1997 through 2000. At the time of passage of the Fire Department's salary ordinances of 1996, the South Bend Fire Department was in the process of establishing a Safety Officer program, and it was agreed by the City Negotiating Team and the Wage Committee of the South Bend Firefighters Association, Local No. 362, that the final determination of the appropriate amount of specialty pay for the Safety Officers could not be adequately determined until it was more clearly known what duties, responsibilities and training requirements of the safety officers were. The South Bend Fire Department wishes to now establish specialty pay for Safety Officers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: Section I. Safety Officers S en cialty Pay. Paragraph (f) shall be added to Section III of Ordinance No. 8696-96, which paragraph shall read as follows: (f) Safety Officers. The regularly assigned Safety Officer shall receive, in addition to his or her base salary, the following amount: 1998 1999 2000 $3000 ,3,000 X3,000 Section II. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. This ordinance will establish speciality pay for our three (3) Safety Officers. This program is now in place and has proven to be an excellent safety factor for the Fire Department.
