STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
On July 28, 1997, the South Bend Common Council passed Ordinance No. 8808-
97 which fixed and established the annual pay and monetary fringe benefits of sworn
members and officers of the South Bend Police Department for the calendar years 1998
through 2001.
Since the passage of the Police Department salary ordinance in 1997, the South
Bend Police Department is now ready to undertake a reorganization of its Investigative
Division in a continuing effort to attract qualified individuals and address pay inequities
which have arisen over the years. The reorganization involved establishing different levels
for Corporals, based on experience and expertise.
