AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
APPROPRIATING $ 150,000.00 FROM THE
COVELESKI IMPROVEMENT FUND (FUND NO.401)

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Coveleski Improvement Fund (Fund No. 401) was established for the purpose of
funding capital improvements to the Coveleski Regional Stadium. The Park Department
Superintendent has developed and presented a plan for development and improvement of
the stadium, which plan budgets $ 150,000.00 for capital improvements to be made in 1998.
1998 improvements include installation of flooring in locker rooms, electrical upgrades to the
picnic garden and concourse areas, expansion of picnic garden seating area, concourse floor
sealing and replacement of the exterior wall. It has been determined it is in the best interest of the
City of South Bend to appropriate sufficient funds from the Coveleski Improvement Fund to
allow these improvements to be made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section I. The following sum of money is hereby appropriated and ordered set apart
from and within the Coveleski Improvement Fund (Fund No. 401) for capital improvements
to the Coveleski Regional Stadium.

Dear Council Members:
This ordinance, appropriating $150,000.00 from the Coveleski Improvement Fund, is
being submitted to the Common Council for consideration and approval.
The improvements outlined in this ordinance are part of an ongoing process to
maintain Coveleski Stadium as a premier facility for minor league baseball. They are
also in accordance with the objectives outlined in the current Stadium Use,
Management and Operations Agreement. This appropriation is being made from
funds generated from stadium revenues.
Major improvements for 1998 include the following: (costs are approximate)
a. Installation of new flooring in the locker rooms. ($ 20-25,000)
b. Electrical upgrades along concourse area and picnic garden. ($25,000)
c. Replacement of exterior wall. ($22,000)
d. Picnic garden expansion -enhancing accessibility to better meet ADA standards
and increase serving area. ($25,000)
f. Seating upgrades in designated area along concourse. ($8,500)
g. Resealing of concrete concourse floor. ($20,000)
h. New infield sod ($4,000)
I. New carpet in press box ($ 4,000)
We feel these improvements will continue the tradition of keeping Coveleski
Stadium a clean, fun, family oriented entertainment option. Should there be
