AN ORDINANCE OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, SETTING THE ANNUAL SALARIES
FOR THE MAYOR AND FOR THE CITY CLERK FOR
CALENDAR YEAR 1999
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
Pursuant to Indiana Code § 36-4-7-2, the City's legislative body is required to fix the annual
compensation of all elected officers. Such compensation may "not be changed in the year for which
it is fixed, nor may it be reduced below the amount fixed for the previous yeaz".
The following Ordinance establishes the annual compensation for Mayor of the City of South
Bend and for the South Bend City Clerk for calendar yeaz 1999.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South Bend,
Indiana, as follows:
Section I. The annual compensation for the Mayor of the City of South Bend in calendar yeaz
1999 shall be and hereby is established at $72,583.00.
Section II. The annual compensation for the South Bend City Clerk in calendar year 1999
shall be and hereby is established at $39,319.00.
Section III. If any one or more of the provisions contained in this ordinance shall for any
reason be held to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable in any respect, such invalidity, illegality or
unenforceability shall not affect any other provision hereof, and this ordinance shall be construed as
if such invalid, illegal or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.
Section IV. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by the
Common Council, approval by the Mayor, and legal publication.
