AN ORDINANCE OF THE SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL
AMENDING CHAPTER 16, ARTICLE 2, SECTION 6 OF THE SOUTH BEND
MUNICIPAL CODE AND ESTABLISHING A CHARGE FOR
CURBSIDE RECYCLING SERVICES
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND INTENT
The Solid Waste District Boazd of St. Joseph County has initiated acounty-wide
mandatory curbside recycling program for single-family residences and multi-family residences of
up to four (4) units.
The South Bend Common Council has adopted a Resolution authorizing the Ciry of South
Bend to participate in this mandatory curbside recycling program.
The South Bend Common Council is to establish a rate for curbside recycling services in
the City of South Bend.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCII. OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows:
Section I. Chapter 16, Article 2, Section 16-6 of the South Bend Municipal Code shall be,
and hereby is, amended to read as follows:
(d) The Ci shall charge the owner or occupant of each occupied single-family residence
and individual unit within amulti-family residence of gp to four (4,1 units the sum of $1.97
per month for the collection of recyclables.
f~~ Chazges for City collection of residential refuse and recyclables shall be added to
the residential unit's water meter charges and collected as are bills for water services.
{z11~ It is the responsibility of the owners, occupants or tenants of abutting property fo
keep all alleys used by any sanitation vehicles clean, orderly and passable at all times.
Section II. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage by
the Common Council and approved by the Mayor and legal publication.

of the South Bend Municipal Code and Establishing a Charge for Curbside Recycling
Services
Dear President Coleman:
Attached for filing with the South Bend Common Council, please find an ordinance
establishing a charge for curbside recycling services. As you are aware, the Solid Waste District
Board has entered into a contract with Superior Waste Systems to provide curbside recycling
throughout St. Joseph County. Recently, the South Bend Common Council adopted a resolution
authorizing the City of South Bend to participate in this county-wide recycling program. This
ordinance is to establish a rate t11at will be charged to customers within the City of South Bend
participating the mandatory curbside recycling program.
