PERSONNEL AND FINANCE COMMITTEE MAY 26, 2009
Committee Members Present: Tom LaFountain, Chairperson; Karen White
Other Council Members Present: Derek Dieter; Henry Davis; Ann Puzzello; Timothy
Rouse
Others Present: Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand; Rita
Kopala; Catherine Fanello; Judy Jankowski
Agenda: Bill No. 09-38 -Issuance of 3 Scrap Metal Junk Dealers/Recycling Operation
Licenses
This bill is for renewal of three licenses. The applicants all met the inspection requirements of the
SBPD; SBFD; Water Works, Code Enforcement, and Building Department. They were sent to the
Council with a favorable recommendation for approval.
Chairperson LaFountain opened the meeting noting a quorum was no present so no action could
be taken by the Committee. City Clerk John Voorde made a brief presentation indicating
compliance with the application process, thus requesting issuance and approval. No questions,
no action taken.
Bill No. 09-39 -Appoints an agent to represent the Council for 2009 Police and
Fire Negotiations.
This resolution would appoint Kathy Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney, as negotiating
representative for Police & Fire '09 contracts. Chairman LaFountain began the meeting by
recognizing Councilmember White who asked for a continuance in that the usual practice of
having a preliminary session with the Council to get information, establish a team, and set
parameters had been overlooked. President Dieter apologized for the oversight, said he had no
problem with a continuance and suggested scheduling an executive session prior to the next
meeting on June 8 to discuss all of the above. After brief discussion the Council informally
agreed. With no other business before the Committee, Chairperson LaFountain adjourned at
4:08 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
