A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA,
DECLARING MAY 15, 2006 TO MAY 19, 2006 AS
NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, IlVDIANA
~e~, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, notes the "Paint the
Town Cycle Coalition", a local bicycle advocacy group, is working with the Michiana Bicycle
Association (MBA) to promote bicycle safety; and
G''~ee~, for the past three (3) years, the Memorial Health Systems have annually
promoted bicycle safety programs and related health programs; and
C~~~eraaQ, the South Bend Common Council, in conjunction with the Paint the Town
Cycle Coalition, the Michiana Bicycle Association, Habitat for Humanity, DTSB, Inc., Memorial
Hospital, and other downtown businesses are pleased to announce acity-wide special event in
downtown South Bend scheduled for Monday, May 15, 2006, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. when
members of the Bike Coalition, the MBA and twenty (20) cyclists from Habitat for Humanity
will head off to Indianapolis to host a bicycle commuter table/tent for bicyclists at the College
Football Hall of Fame Gridiron, and will welcome other bicycle commuters as they bike to work.

Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the
Common Council hereby publicly declares May 15, 2006 to May 19, 2006 as NATIONAL BII~E
TO WORK WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, and encourages all employees and their
employers to bike to work in this first-ever, city-wide awareness effort.
Section II. The South Bend Common Council encourages all residents to come to the
College Football Hall of Fame Gridiron on Monday, May 15, 2006 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.,
for refreshments and to learn more about bicycle safety from professional bike mechanics, and
receive information on commuter tips, maps and other efforts in making South Bend a more
bike-friendly place to live and work.
Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption
by the Mayor.
